  1. 1st session is on digital portfolios. "Show the world who you are before the world tells you who you should be." Focused on whole child, not just academics!

    2. They shared a great way to get organized and prepped for digital portfolios, but not many tools to use to carry them out. Luckily, I already knew of a few and remembered a session I went to at ICE about it, too. Weebly is my favorite, but you can also use Flipgrid (LOVE!), Adobe Spark, Wix, ClassDojo portfolios, Seesaw, etc.

    3. Speaking of Flipgrid (love it, too!) -- did you see that now the premium features are free?

  2. Hello D200 ISTE participants! I am learning about the Blended Model using Screencast-o-Matic and EDpuzzle. I use EDpuzzle a lot and am anxious to see how Screencast-o-Matic can work in a Middle School classroom.

  7. Just finished a session with Kasey Bell: Dynamic Learning with GSuite. Her book, Shake Up Learning: Practical Ideas to Move Learning from Static to Dynamic, is awesome. Got a lot of tips of how to help teachers move from "one and done" to a more dynamic learning experience.

    1. Have you seen CoSpaces Edu in the Expo Hall? It's web-based. Students create in 3D and can use block-based coding, JavaScript, and TypeScript. They are running a 50% off ISTE special if you purchase during the conference.

      Here's a link to their website: https://cospaces.io/edu/

  13. Mining Treasures in CSR: Timely, Curriculum-based. Free! had lots of free online tools. I will send a pdf of the handout. I really liked the idea of https://www.learnexperiencehappiness.com/ presented by LG and Discovery Education, but it is for grades 6-12...Middle and High school teachers can use this resource.

  14. I had the chance to attend the STEM Mio: Digital Pathways for Latino Youth to Pursue STEM Career Futures.

The STEM Mio Platform includes inquiry-based STEM learning, real-world tasks in class and the community, curated digital games, high-end videos highlighting Latino role models and their careers, strategic college preparation (digital games, course planning, completing applications), and a corresponding Spanish public TV series, Generacíon STEM, to engage the whole family in learning the value of STEM careers and college futures.

  21. The Keynotes speeches where inspiring. I like how much they talked about student engagement and getting to learners where they are rather than making them assimilate to what we think they should be.

  23. Kelly Hines - stations based instruction
    @kellyhines
The students are doing different things
    What does this help support?
Are students really all going to be on task? Of course not.
Overdrive - accessed through using your public library card
    25 things you didn’t know
Writing lesson (process) planned out by week
Pre planning only - goal for Monday
    Journals as a station - 1 image & 3 statements
These stations allow you to engage in small group instruction with your students
With Stations, the more engaging the better
    Dig into mining - website
Discoveryeducation.com - has lots of free resources for teachers
Don’t overcomplicate this, stations can be wherever the bucket with vocabulary stuff in it
My steralite baskets for each student had their name on them in sharpie, acetone nail polish remover will remove anything, including sharpie
Denblogs.com (search for 360, stations in a great way)

  24. On Monday, I learned a few random things about Google from Leslie Fisher. I like the "Mystery Animal" chrome extension. It is basically playing 20 questions with the chrome book but the kids are the ones asking the questions.

From "Class of 2030 and Life Ready Learning" I liked the quote "Social emotional skills are 2x more predictive of their academic achievement than their home envirnment or demograph." This supports what we already know about how important our students' social-emotional development is & I think we need to continue to look for ways to improve the social emotional development of our kids!

"In a system, innovation can occur inside the box." I LOVED THIS. We don't always have to recreate everything & invent brand new ideas! We are already doing a lot of great things, just keep focusing on making them better!

  25. A lot of copyright information that I thought was VERY interesting! Teaching kids to give credit to pictures used from google images & changing the search settings to only look for certain usage rights. Also looking for Public Domain images so the kids can do whatever they want with them!

  26. I have two comments to share on two sessions I attended..
    1) I was a session on the first five minutes of class--very well done! If you'd like the materials, google "first five minutes livebinder," and it will pop up. Lots of excellent links provided there.
    2) I also attended a session on building good PD (talking to you administrators here!) It was okay, in general, but I really liked one idea, which was to have share-outs and awards for staff that provided ideas on how tech operated in their classroom. Easy, good culture-building, and good sharing technique. I'm thinking George should sponsor awards at every building...

  29. Some takeaways from Sunday and Monday:

To be a learning culture - we need to be a problem solving culture
Recurring problems are a business problem - that’s waste that needs to be addressed

In running a Parent Meeting try Journey Mapping:
    -Identify Bright Spots
    -Identify Pain Points
    -Set Goals

Reflection/self-assessment (program using Sown to Grow)
Although the program is in its infantile stages - using this as an add on to Canvas would be powerful. While students are working they need to understand how they are doing in their own minds and where they are in the process.

Using Badges to Differentiate Professional Development:
Building uses Canvas and canvas badges to host several professional development courses and opportunities (like tech Tuesdays) to motivate and reward teachers to learning more and pushing themselves out of their comfort zone.

Much Better Staff and Team Meetings
Learned a lot about setting the culture of your staff meetings and how to set the tone. A huge take away - Make the commitment first and figure out how to do it after. The sentiment is huge but the practicality still has me thinking. This is so true in many aspects of our lives - can it be applied to a bigger picture - is it always true?

Learned so much more but running to another session!
